Summer is Book Convention Season, and the Just Love team is out and about! (We’re also all traveling, so apologies for the delays on getting these recaps up. –el)

I had the busiest few weeks thanks to these two events, but it was so worth it to go! Sorry in advance for the wonky picture quality. It was SUPER sunny for both events and my phone camera is already not the best, but I did what I could.

DMac Goes to San Diego Comic Con

… well, two days worth of Comic Con, but that was more than I had planned on so I was STOKED! Thanks to El, I got to attend for Wednesday and Saturday at the con, but I went in woefully under-prepared. Luckily El is a con expert, and she helped me get the most of my days (re: books/swag).

Technically I wasn’t there as part of the blog, but I still wanted to help El do some stuff for the site. I was able to get some good book information for Just Love, and snag some ARCs to read for my personal book review blog. I love to read, so this wasn’t a chore. I would have been all up in the book section even if I didn’t write for Just Love. Books are awesome!

I was only there for two days so I’m just going to break this post down by day instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.

My August To-Be-Read Shelf

IMG_6064

Last night I dug through my bookshelves and pulled out the books I plan to read in August. Some are ARCs I got at Comic Con, some are books I bought or were gifted to me. I’m not sure if I’ll get to all of them, especially since Illuminae is a beast of a novel (but so, so pretty!). Plus I have a ton of e-books pre-ordered, and DRCs to read.

Among the e-book TBRs are:

  • Level Hands, by Amy Jo Cousins
  • Buchanan House, by Charley Descoteaux
  • Bonds of Denial and the rest of the Wicked Play series, by Lynda Aicher
  • Reckless Hope, by j. leigh bailey
  • Charmed & Dangerous (anthology)
  • A bunch of books from Carina Press (thank you post-RWA sale!)

I’m averaging about a book every two days lately, though, so hopefully I’ll make it through most of this stack!

Have you read any of these? Any recommendations on where to start? I’m participating in the Lunar Chronicles read-along beginning August 1, so that’s definitely at the top of my list, but I can’t decide where to go from there.

I notice that I tend to buy YA in physical copy, and adult stuff in e-copy. I think part of that is because the LGBTQIA lit books tend to be digitally published only, or very, very expensive in hard copy (because they’re smaller print runs).

Looking forward to seeing what other people are reading next month!
